Gambero Rosso’s Three Wineglasses for Targa Riserva 1840

Felicitous advance news from the prestigious Gambero Rosso Italian Wine Guide 2016, which has announced the Three Wineglasses awarded to Sicily. 20 wines have been assigned the top award, which distinguishes the best of the wines tasted by Gambero Rosso’s experts. Among them is one Florio’s best-loved marsala wines, Targa Riserva 1840, a superior reserve semi-dry marsala that still reflects the characteristics of the historic Riserva Florio created in 1840. Produced exclusively with Grillo grapes grown on the Marsala coast, Targa Riserva 1840 ages for at least five years in oak barrels, which gives it its characteristic brilliant amber colour with delicate topaz highlights. Its intense bouquet contains distinct notes of dates, apricots and stewed prunes, while the full-bodied, velvety flavour reveals an elegant finish of dried fruit that makes it perfect as a meditation or dessert wine, but also as an unusual aperitif served cold and paired with blue cheeses such as Gorgonzola. A tribute to Florio’s tradition and always innovative spirit, but above all an important recognition by Gambero Rosso of one of the great Made in Italy products, marsala. A wine with historic beginnings encapsulating a spark of modernity that will amaze you!
