Duca Enrico: Decanter Gold Medal 2014

Decanter, the noted British magazine, has presented important new awards to Duca di Salaparuta wines. A Gold Medal went to Duca Enrico 2009, a particularly relevant award for a wine that celebrates its first thirty years this year. Produced for the first time in 1984, Duca Enrico was the first single varietal wine made from  Nero d’Avola grapes in the history of Sicilian wines, and has contributed to making this grape, with its rich, profoundly Sicilian soul, famous throughout the world.

An eclectic wine, a revolutionary product that only the vast know-how, lengthy tradition and powerful innovatory spirit that have always been Duca di Salaparutahallmarks could create.  A wine that perfectly represents the enquiring, avant-garde spirit of Enrico Alliata, eleventh Duke of Salaparuta, to whom it is dedicated. However, Decanter has honoured not only this icon of international oenology, but also wines from the Duca di Salaparuta Estates, the Terroir Selections and Corvo.

Born from the desire to promote Sicily and its exceptional terroirs,  Duca di Salaparuta Estate wines have  unmistakable personalities. First and foremost, Kados,an intense, highly appealing  Grillo originating on the sun-drenched hills of the Risignolo Estate in the heart of Salemi province, was awarded the prestigious Silver Medal.  Then Làvico, from the Vajasindi Estate at the foot of Mount Etna, and Passo delle Mule, another single varietal Nero d’Avola from the Suor Marchesa Estate, were awarded the Bronze Medal.

Bronze Medals also for two wines from the Calanìca line, Insolia & Chardonnay and Nero d’Avola & Merlot, and for Corvo Irmàna Nero d’Avola & Frappato, wines that have made an excellent quality/price ratio their strength. Meticulous attention in the vineyard and the cellar make for products perfect for an elegant aperitif or dinner with friends, with all the scents and flavours of Sicily and ideal for a relaxed, enjoyable evening. A rich collection of medals and great recognition for the quality of wines made with care and an always enquiring spirit such as that of Duca di Salaparuta.
